Consider the data from a 2 × 3 between-groups factorial design. There are six separate conditions, and each condition has five subjects in it (N = 30).

44. Which Test Should I Use?

For each study description below, choose the correct inferential statistic to test the hypothesis.

A dietician is concerned that a new drug being sold to help people lose weight has a side effect of increased anxiety. He is especially concerned about high doses of the drug, which could cause very high levels of anxiety, prompting panic attacks in people who take too much of the drug. He recruits a sample of 90 people who want to lose weight. They are randomly assigned to one of three groups: the recommended drug dose group, the higher-than-recommended drug dose group, or the no-drug control group. The participants all receive an identical pill (with the control group’s pill containing only sugar) to control for a placebo effect. After a period of three months, all the participants take a questionnaire to measure their anxiety levels. The scores for the three groups are compared. Independent samples t test
